Liposuction – Different Types
Liposuction is best applied to areas of the body that have intractable deposits of adipose tissue (fat) that resist conventional methods of removal, such as diet and exercise. The most popular areas are the cellulite behind the thighs, the loose and wobbly areas under the arms, and the notorious “love handles.” The parts of the body that by and large respond well are the facial areas of chin, jowl and neck, abdominal and flank areas, hips, thighs, buttocks, and upper arms.
Patients of both genders may also decide that liposuction is useful for to breast size reduction, a procedure that when compared to other types of plastic surgery results in a lesser amount of scarring. Liposuction can be carried out successively on various surgical sites during the same procedure; in effect, many patients decide to have several parts of their body treated during the same day. A consultation with your plastic surgeon in the Milwaukee area will help determine if this type of procedure is best for you.
There are numerous types of this kind of procedure in existence, all of which employ an instrument shaped like a wand known as a cannula to do away with redundant fat. The injection if an appropriate amount of anesthetic into the area being treated is called tumescent liposuction, with several variations of sub-techniques of this type of liposuction.
- In a UAL, or ultrasonic assisted liposuction, high-frequency sound waves are applied to liquefy fat before it is vacuumed from the surgical site.
- LipoSelection® uses the same concept, but does not disturb the surrounding tissue which is an option for patients and shorter recovery times.
- The PAL is power assisted liposuction and utilizes a cannula powered by a tiny motor which gives the surgeon access to slighter movements which can make the procedure less stressful for the patient.
